Our Farm is located at Newry in the Macalister Irrigation District. We milk 1050 cows, with an even split of jersey/holsteins and crossbreds. We calve twice a year with 60% of them calving in the spring.
My wife, Erin, and I recently took ownership of the farm and plan to take the herd to 1200 cows. We have a farm manager who looks after all staffing, herd health and calf rearing, and a pasture manager. I focus on irrigating the 320ha of land with 5 pivots, flood irrigation and fixed sprinklers, aiming to be fully automated within 3 years.
We are the 4th generation to milk off this land and hope that our three children, Lily, Pippa and Alfie, will have involvement in the farm in the future. As such we are already keeping our succession plan in mind for that generation.
When I have time, I enjoy watching Ice Hockey and reading epic fantasy fiction. If you see me on the farm with headphones in I am probably listening to Harry Potter.
