Dean Ford

Our family farm is based near Darnum in west Gippsland. My wife’s parents are involved in some activities, with Rebecca and myself and our youngest son Corey the main workforce.
Rebecca and l started Christmas Day 1993 milking 120 cows and have continued to develop and increase numbers. Our dairy is a small rotary built in 1989. Over the last 12 months we have built and installed accommodation at the dairy and are currently using backpackers to fill seasonal requirements.
Peak cows is around the 370 cows plus young stock and steers and our milking area is approximately 160Ha plus additional lease and out paddocks for beef and heifer replacement. We lease the Darnum milk factory farm and grow maize and silage under the pivots. Our milking area at home is all dry land.
I work off-farm as a project manager on education building sites as required and have done this since 2008. Off-farm we look to spend what time is available with family and friends and help out others were can.
